Last night the guys had a "guys night out" while the girls went to another house to have a "girls night out". While there, my Australian friend, Jodi, said told us of the continued saga with their gardener. They had a maid, a very trustworthy and wonderful woman, working for them. They hired her son, Jehtro, to be a gardener for them. Jethro's brother, Joseph, is also an amazing trustworhy guy is a believer and works for my other friend Jo. Jethro started off ok, but got lazy. He was working part time for $20 a month (which is a good salary for one working full time as a gardener here). He was getting paid well, but getting lazy and wouldn't do the gardening tasks he was supposed to do. Jodi and Andrew always thought that some of their fuel out of their 50 gallon drum was "going missing" but could never really be sure as they couldn't quite measure how much was in the drum. One day they noticed a bag of cement missing. When they confronted Jethro about it, he denied it was him, but the bag "mysteriously" appeared the next day. The next weekend they noticed two jerry cans missing plus two wheels of their trailer missing. They confronted Jethro who had ready excuses of several people that could have stolen them. The police were called out but were pretty uninterested and uncaring about the whole thing.
The next weekend, two full jerry cans were gone. Joseph came to talk to his brother and convinced him to resign from his position because if he truly didn't steal the items, then Andrew and Jodi would always think it was him when anything else went missing. Jethro told Andrew and Jodi that he resigned. By resigning, you are not entitled to any pay (if you are fired, you get 3 month's salary). He threw a fit! Andrew and Jodi went to the labor board with him where he was ranting and raving, but the labor board began to laugh at him because he was acting ridiculous and was entitled to nothing. Jodi and Andrew agreed to compromise and give him 1.5 months of pay because they just wanted to be rid of him.
Jethro moved off the property and only today did Jodi and Andrew realize that their 50 gallon fuel drum is empty. The "empty" jerry cans Jethro stole were not empty at all, but were filled! Plus he had taken the other 2 full jerry cans too. And, Jodi and Andrew discovered their cash pile in their house had decreased. When counting it up, there is about $3000-$4000 missing!
We may have been robbed by someone we didn't know, but they were robbed by their very own gardener! Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon thing!
