Mat and I took a quick trip to Francistown, Botswana to do some needed shopping—mostly getting hardware parts for the new house.  We took Calvin with us and decided not to bring the pack and play as we really needed the space in our vehicle to bring home our shopping items.  So when we got to the hotel, we put some blankets on the ground and he fell asleep...until midnight, that is.  He was crying and I looked down and he was sitting up near our bed.  He had crawled over to us crying.  Now, anytime we travel, we find it challenging to all sleep in the same room together as we usually sleep in seperate rooms.  So I tried holding him back to sleep...didn't work.  I tried putting him in bed with us, but he just kept tapping Mat and saying, “da da, da da” with a smile on his face.  So finally we decided to get the car seat out of the car and strap him in to sleep (since he is used to taking naps in the car seat and couldn't crawl around)...but poor Calvin screamed being trapped in the carseat.  We felt bad as we thought we'd be waking up everyone in the hotel, so we decided to put Calvin in the car (in his carseat) to cry it out and go to sleep.  So Mat carried Calvin and the carseat back out to the car, parked right outside our sliding doors.  As Mat was lifting him, he pulled a muscle in his back and was in utter pain!  Calvin did eventually fall asleep in the seat and we brought the sleeping boy back indoors where he slept in the car seat until morning!  But neither Mat and I got much sleep: poor Mat was up in pain all night and I couldn't sleep on the hard mattress with my pregnant belly keeping me awake!  These trips are always stressful and are never a real vacation.  I woke up the next morning saying, “We're never taking a family vacation again!”  But I'm sure I'll forget my words in about 2 months when it is time for another trip!
