So we finally got the entire water project installed and have been enjoying water in the house! Then tonight Mat said to me, "You'll never believe this--those dirty rats were chewing on the electrical cord of the water pump!" Are you kidding me? Of all the things these stupid rats could choose to chew, they chew on these precious wires that are helping to pump water into our house? After months of work trying to get this thing installed, rats then come and destroy everything! Fortunately they only really got at the sheath and barely onto the wires, but still! It is unbelievable. All I could do was laugh at the irony! I've been struck lately how impossible it is to protect our belongings here. You can try all you can to protect your cars, generators, computers, digital cameras, cell phones, etc. but inevitably, things get stolen. That's just the way it is. And everyone I know has had things that have been stolen! And if they don't get stolen, then rats chew on them and destroy them! It really has given new meaning to Matt 6:19-20, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust (and African rats) destroy and where theives break in and steal, but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust (and African rats) don't destroy and theives do not break in and steal."
