This weekend TCZ hosted the annual general meeting of ACTEZ, the Association of Colleges for Theological Education in Zimbabwe. There were a few items discussed at this meeting of about 50 people from theological schools across Zimbabwe. One issue discussed was the responsibility that theological colleges have to lay foundations and develop students spiritually. There are always discouraging reports of graduates from our school and other theological schools in Zimbabwe who have divorced their wives or committed adultery or beat their wives. We wonder, “How can this happen? Are we doing all that we can to nurture our students spiritually as well as educationally?” TCZ partners the faculty up with students for discipleship and spiritual advising times. But is there more we can do? How can we, in the classroom, make it a point to seek to spiritually nurture our students? It was a great time of brainstorming with other lecturers about some ideas of how to improve in this area.
There were also seminars where Mat presented to librarians the use of Koha, a free open source library software system to put all books on an electronic catalogue. He shared with them what the software system can do and how they too can set it up at their colleges as well! Mat also spoke about Moodle, our intranet system at the college, with the other schools and showed them how we can use technology to improve the efficiency and communication at our schools! Mat foresees himself doing a bit of traveling around Zimbabwe in the future to help other schools start up some of these computer programs.
