The gardener said something in the Ndebele language to the maid and it gave her a shriek.  Then I heard him say, “These dogs are serious!”  I went outside to look what he was talking about and about 4 yards from our front door was a dead snake!  The dogs had killed it and dragged it up to the door to show off their prize!  Yikes!  This snake was probably 1 meter long and the width was a bit bigger than a garden hose.  The gardener carried it off with a stick to take and burn it while I, after getting a good look at it, searched the internet to discover what kind of snake it was.  I think this snake was an “African House Snake” which is one who lives around people as it hunts rats.  Fortunately it constricts its prey and is not venomous.  I was creeped out, but I guess I can handle a constrictor snake here or there.  Well about a week later, I came home and the gardener and the maid were outside and quite excited!  Turbo had just killed another snake and was showing it off and playing with it.  It was a smaller African House Snake.  Again, freaky, but a “friendly” snake to have around.  Then probably a week later, Turbo caught yet another snake.  But this snake was a venomous snake!  Poor Turbo’s lip was SO swollen as he must have been bit.  This was a thin and small green snake and unfortunately we haven’t yet identified just what kind of snake it is.  Oh boy!  I can handle the African House Snake, but a venomous one really freaks me out, especially for the children!
