So the main purpose of our shopping trip to South Africa was for me to get paint to fix up the house we've moved in to. My friend, Sue, and I traveled together to split the costs of tolls, fuel, accommodation, etc, making the trip a bit more affordable. We decided to take my smaller vehicle to save on fuel costs as the bigger one chugs fuel and often overheats on long trips. However, we did not account for the fact that I'd be bringing back about 100L of paint plus all the weight of the groceries. Once we packed up the car with all of our stuff, we were sitting VERY low in the back and were heavily weighted. We initially had 60L of paint in the trunk but realized the car was not manuevering well so we kept 40L in the trunk and put the rest up in the car with us. Poor Sue had loads of paint up by her feet! We were driving about 25mph through the mountains of Louis Trichardt in South Africa and then once we were on the roads, we could only drive between 50-60mph the rest of the way home. Needless to say, a 4.5 hr drive ended up taking us 8 hours on the way home! We were laughing because even the big rigs were passing us on the roads! The things you will do to get the things that you need!
